Professional Cost Management Group on auditing your energy bill and recouping historic non-commodity charges

At Two Blues Solar, we know that solar will typically only solve part of a businesses’ energy cost and sustainability challenges.   We’ve therefore formed partnerships with a number of other companies who can support our clients with their energy cost and carbon savings goals.  Read on to find out more about how one of these partners, Professional Cost Management Group, can help you ensure you’re keeping your energy costs in check.

Could You Have Overpaid On Your Energy Bills?

Energy bills for energy-intensive businesses are often extremely complex and there’s a high chance most businesses only glance at the detail and assume that the figures are correct.

Unfortunately this may not always be the case, particularly with respect to the non-commodity charges that have been passed through.

The good news is that it’s possible to engage professionals to do a forensic audit of your historic bills on a risk-free basis.

Established over 30 years ago, Professional Cost Management Group (PCMG) is the UK’s leading provider of cost recovery and optimisation services, working across the private and public sectors.

How Does It Work and What does PCMG do?

You might wonder how it’s possible for your utility bills to be wrong.  The most likely source of errors are those instances where non-commodity costs have been “passed through” from a network owner to the supplier to you.  These costs may not have been checked by the supplier before being added to your bill. You can read more about non-commodity costs and what they include in Two Blues Solar’s recent article.

PCMG will scrutinise the last 5-6 years of your energy, telecoms and water bills and compare the details to your contractual agreements.  As an example, in the case of energy costs, all the calculations will be checked to ensure that the correct regulatory charges for the region have been applied by the DNO.  At the end of the process, you’ll be briefed and given a report with PCMG’s recommendations as well as the refund you should be due.

There are no costs involved in getting to this stage and it’s then up to you to decide if you’d like PCMG to work through the process of claiming your refund.  PCMG will take a fee which is a percentage of the recovered costs.

What Kinds of Businesses does PCMG support?

If you’re spending upwards of £300,000 on your annual energy costs across the business, there’s a good chance PCMG can help you.

With a strong presence throughout the UK, the organisation serves a large portfolio of long-standing clients including Transport for London, Halfords and Herefordshire Council. To date, more than £513million has been recovered for businesses across their energy, water and telecoms bills.
